My AMC Plot Update

Yes, I am still taking any kind assistance, because I need to arrange travel and hope to be able to eat over that weekend, LOL. I’m gonna be honest with you, because anyone who knows me at all knows that I will - literally - starve to buy a book, so I am kinda hoping to have a few bucks I can spare to buy one or two that are otherwise hard for me to find.
1) Inspired by Crip Chick, I decided that I need to send a token gift of thanks to anyone who is generous enough to help me out. So, for anyone who donates to my cause, in any amount, you will receive a one-of-a-kind bookmark made especially for you from yours truly. Make sure you put a mailing address in your donation if you’re using PayPal.
2) If you are not planning to go to the AMC, for whatever reason, but you are interested to know about anything specific going on there, please let me know. This is my first time going, so I’m not sure what to expect, but I am quite happy to gather information for anyone who isn’t able to attend. I hope, inshaAllah, to be live-blogging over the weekend, and will post what percolates in my brain as afterthoughts to the conference as well, inshaAllah.
3) If you have been to the AMC before, can you please give me a clue? I mean, I know what it’s all about. But I have to confess, I’ve never travelled alone before and I’ve never been to any kind of conference, and I’m not very socially with-it. So I have alot of excitement about it, but also alot of anxiety. Just navigating finding where I am staying, how I will get from the Greyhound to Wayne State, how I will recognize the friends I am meeting up with, how to choose which sessions to attend, etc. is all very frightening to me. Laugh if you must, yes I am neurotic. Oh, and yes, I’ll be wearing niqab, so I’m a little nervous about how I will be received or what stupidity I might have to deal with. I love Detroit, so I’m counting on the city not letting me down… some people who aren’t from Detroit though, well, I’m trying to show faith in the good of humanity but sometimes it’s hard.

public transportation in detroit can be confusing, but there is a bus that will take you straight from the bus station to wayne state, and there will also be people on hand giving rides to and from the airport who could swing by the bus station and pick you up. you might be the only one @ the AMC in niqab, but definately not the only one in hijab!
i know it can be really stressful to navigate big events like this– let me know if you have any questions i can answer!
Hee hee, I was planning to take advantage of the group to ask, what may seem like a million stupid or annoying questions. I know it seems odd… probably hard for people to imagine the person I am also having all these other areas that don’t come out so much on the blog. Really… never have travelled alone. Really, never been to a conference. Really… out of my element, and oh-so-glad that I will know a whole group of women once I do get there!!!

the first conference i ever went to was an arab arts conference. i was terrified and shy and i hardly talked to anyone. the next conference was an arab women’s conference, same thing, but a little better (and way more emotional). then the AMC. now it feels like conferences are taking over my life (uh especially one conference in particular)!
