Mawlid Blog Carnival 1428
31 03 2007Welcome to the Mawlid Blog Carnival! In honor of the Prophet and Messenger of Islam (salalahi alahi wa salaam), we present readings that will inshaAllah inspire each of us to get to know him better and to model our lives after him.
To give more meat, in addition to the posts submitted, I have attempted to gather up other on-line resources on the Prophet (salalahi alahi wa salaam).
From Irving at the Darvish blog we have Prophetic Wisdom and Jesus Fortells the Coming of Muhammad Peace be upon him.
Abdur Rahman from Abdur Rahman’s Corner gives us two poems, Love’s Burden and Mount Uhud.
Yursil at Mind, Body, Soul tells us How to Love Him Sallahual aihee was salam.
IzzyMo at her blog writes about Developing Muhammadan Virtue. Part of the goal of remembering his (salalahi alahi wa salaam) life and example is in cultivating it within ourselves.
Nuh of the recently created Nuh Gondek blog gives us Footprint in the Sand.
Maliha at Lightness of Being gives us a moving personal review of Tariq Ramadan’s new book In the Footsteps of the Prophet (salalahi alahi wa salaam). I am currently reading this book after her recommendation and recommend it to others as well.
Sadiq Alam at Inspirations & Creative Thoughts (aka MysticSaint) reviews one of the very best bios of the Prophet’s (salalahi alahi wa salaam) life by Martin Lings.
UmmZaid at SunniSisters has several awesome posts that everyone should check out. For numerous links on the Prophet (salalahi alahi wa salaam) and Mawlid, check out “Welcome Rabi ‘Awwal 1428″. Then make sure to check out The SunniSister Rabi ‘Awwal Challenge and The Poem of the Cloak, Chapter 3. Also, she has posted some links to the poetry of Sidi Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore.
A big thank you to my suluk sister Caroline for providing me the text of The Way of Sayiduna Muhammad (salalahi alahi wa salaam) and The Companions’ Descriptions of the Prophet (salalahi alahi wa salaam).
While we are on a roll, please check out the following other resources to inspire you and remind you of the importance and blessing of Our Prophet (salalahi alahi wa salaam). Don’t forget about him and all that we can learn from him once the Mawlid has passed! Don’t make this your last visit to any of these sites or the last time that you read a bit of sirah until next year!

Many thanks for this effort.
Peace and blessings be upon our Beloved Prophet and his blessed bloodline.
Asalaamu alaikum.
My apologies to everyone who may have had difficulty reading this post. Mystic Saint brought to my attention that the formatting had somehow all melted into one paragraph, despite the fact that I actually VIEWED the post after publishing it and it was separated out into appropriate paragraphs. Anyway, I have fixed the formatting again and inshaAllah it is an easier read now.
Jazaki Allahu khair, i learned a lot
Thank you for including my two posts, dear Sister. They are poor additions to the wonderful and insightful posts you have included on many excellent blogs
May Allah bless you for your good works on behalf of the remembrance of the blessed Prophet (pbuh).

May God bless you and all that you do for your efforts in this regard.

Celebrating Mawlid in Medina tul Munawarrah.
For those of us who wish to oust the whole concept of Mawlid or Celebrating the birth of the best of creation have full right to do so yet expressing anger and hate for the practice and participants does way more harm than good. Unity will never be achieved if we cannot tolerate a simple difference of opinion. I ask you why do you sit on your chair in front of a monitor and attempt to propagate Islamic beliefs via internet? Had the Companions of the Prophet saw or he himself use this particular means for dawa or to communicate any Khair? Why is it that we sit with comfort on our sofas and watch Al Huda? And why do those who claim to follow and support ‘puritan’ Islam travel for Umra with a car or with greater ease in an airplane? A camel’s a authetic option. The list goes on. We must be honest and practical regarding what we profess to believe and what we actually follow. The concept of Bida’h or innovation is not as simple as our concerned brothers and sisters make it. Innovation itself has different categories and one that concerns us in this matter is: the Innovation in Deen that Proves Beneficial ( praiseworthy).
A classical example of this type of bida’h is during the Caliphate of Umar (ra) was the compilation of the Quran, which had not been the case prior to. The need for this had many reasons and justification and thus decided with consensus from the learned and the Caliph of that time to ‘Go Ahead’. Our use of the internet as a means of spreading Truth is itself proof of the ‘Good’ brought about by those individuals spreading good by this same means. Thousands have been guided to the light of Islam and continue to do so as we speak, by means of the internet. Correct me, yet majority of the Ulema not only are endorsing the use of the Internet, yet themselves have either sites up or spread the teachings of truth through this means. Although there just may be a band of Scholars that ban this means (none that I’ve heard of) yet what position are we in to disrespect their opinion in this matter?
By no means do we need to ‘fight’ over this matter. Jeopardizing Unity of the Ummah over difference of opinion is it self a great INNOVATION. The Sahaba (ra) themselves had differencences in numerous matters and this continued from that time onwards till today. Difference of opinion, thought, ijtihaad, fataawas and interpretation are in fact a Rahma from Allah to us. It magnifies Islam’s beauty and easier matters for its adherents. What if the matter of Niqaab was ordained Fard by all our scholars? Yet the reality is that this particular matter is subject to difference of opinion; thus a Rahma or mercy for women in Islam. Sisters must respect both sides of the fence in this matter as this allowance of opinion is again from Allah’s Wisdom.
Likewise I would like to make my personal opinion obvious in matters of celebrating the Mawlid UN Nabawi. Living in a country that is majority Muslim, many of us are making strong efforts to raise our children with a strong love for Deen, its outward and inner requirements. The outward matters are very obvious and for many this is the primary factor why many have migrated to ‘Muslim lands’. Our children are continuously exposed to Adhaan 5 times a day, praying at the mosques, modest Islamic attire, Islamic education readily available through schools, religious seminaries and local community members and scholars yet those of us who are rearing children know very well that l the inner dimensions such as moral development and training cannot be left to the schools alone to teach our kids, it’s an effort we parents have to consciously practice, inculcate and educate our children about.
Our following the Sunnah and our entire way of life is a reflection of our sincere love for the Prophet alaeyhi salatu wasallam. This is a reality. By choosing to attend a gathering where praise through Poetry, listening to the authentic Serah-Life of Muhammad (saw) and reciting Durood upon the Messenger or Allah, (mind you there was absolutely no mixing or presence of males in this gathering and no ‘dancing’ as many presume or any breaking of ‘Islamic Code’) filled a spiritual void that otherwise mays not be achieved through everyday formal exoteric teachings. The gathering consisted of Arabic speaking individuals in the majority. As we know in the West a good majority of the Muslims attend Islamic conference and organized events in some form or another as a means of reviving knowledge, love and spirit for Islam. Likewise attending Mawlid in Medina is what I and many all over the Kingdom opted to do with their families this year and inshalla I will continue till I remain here. Mind you the Governors of Mecca, Medina and Jeddah know of these gatherings, many from ‘them’ also participate, and yet make no effort to stop or criticize them as they know unlike our Najdi friends in Riyadh (btw Riyadh also has many pockets where such gathering have been going on for decades) that there is goodness in the outcome and not ‘worth a fight’. Many continue to ask us and we shall continue to spread the news of these gatherings in the Kingdom. The flag of intolerance is on the rise in our communities, especially in the youth who have made it their mission to eradicate by any means those individuals who practice not ‘Puritan Islam’. Those aware are reminded of the Canadian incident with the 19 youth last year? The point here is to understand in the least why these gathering came about in the first place and continue to be attended by millions all over the world annually.
“To revive the love of the Prophet saw in our hearts.”
We are in an era where the Prophetic Sunnah is regarded as a mere option and love for other personalities has overtaken our hearts and our children’s likewise.
“The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. (Bukhari)
“Tell them (O Muhammad Saw) if you Love Allah then follow me and Allah will love you.” (Quran)
.
In esoteric thought everything is based on Love. Thus if the outcome of attending Mawlid, for instance, increases Love for Allah’s Beloved then by no means should one criticize as you and I do not know who really love’s the Prophet (saw)
Forgive me if I have offended anyone as this was not my intention but a personal account of why I and millions world wide celebrate Mawlid.
May Allah and His Habeeb saw) be pleased with us all.
